Simon Arnold Director
With ten years recruitment experience across East Anglia, Simon has in an in-depth knowledge of the local tech scene and a proven track record of delivering for both candidates and clients.
He prides himself on doing the right thing and beyond merely recruiting, Simon also works as part of the community to help promote local technology business, address the skills gaps and encourage young people to consider a career in IT within the region.
When he isn’t running Hackathons or matching candidates with employers you can normally find him dragging himself around a rugby pitch trying to avoid injury, in a gym or doing as he is told by his long term girlfriend.
David Atkins Director
Having founded 3 tech companies locally David has considerable experience of the highs and lows experienced when running a business but is still passionate about what he does and encouraging others to do the same.
Offering opportunities to try out new ideas is the key to innovation and this hackathon gives you a chance to try something out, find others who can add to your ideas and see how you might develop it further.
Jeremy Parsons Director
Passionate about the potential of startup thinking to change the world, Jeremy has cofounded businesses in tech, financial services and telecommunications. He ran the world’s first popup startup centre and was the first manager of the Ideaspace incubation centre in Cambridge. He has run startup events and hackathons in London, Cambridge, Oxford and at the European Centre for Space Applications. His latest venture is Magic Subscriptions, helping entrepreneurs build subscription box businesses from idea to side-hustle to growth company.
All this is a side-hustle for Jeremy, whose main hustle is as a Church of England minister near Bury St Edmunds. He continues to encourage people to focus on one thing. This is good advice that he has never, in all his career, taken.
Peter Basford Treasurer
Business Growth Coaches
After a long career in. Banking, Peter set up Business Growth Coaches in 2018, he is passionate about helping others and sharing his knowledge of finance and how to run businesses effectively. As well as being the Treasurer for Innovate Suffolk, Peter is also on the local LEP Skills Advisory Panel and chairs the Suffolk Financial Services Group (FIPS) , is one of the Owners of Innovation Labs, Stowmarket as well as having Non Exec and coaching roles with a number of local companies. In 2019 Peter led The Suffolk Apprentice a year long event supporting Suffolk Charities and finding the next generation of entrepreneurs in the county.
Regarding Innovate Suffolk Peter said “ I’m really keen to see how new technology can create new solutions to 21st century issues, The first Hackathon we ran last year really showed what could be achieved in a short time of focused activity to come up with a great service to help others. I’m really excited to see what will be created in the second instalment in 2020.
Paul Graham Key contributor
Paul is the Directory of UK Engineering for Matrixx Software, a Silicon Valley based company. He joined in 2014 to establish an engineering centre to utilise local talent to expand Matrixx’s global footprint. He has 25 years experience in Telecommunications, having been part of another successful start-up, eServGlobal, being in the OCS division when it was acquired by Oracle in 2010. He has most recently relocated UK Engineering to Innovation Martlesham and leads the group making the charge into Cloud Native and 5G, the next generation mobile technology. He’s a passionate believer in the areas potential as a key technology hub with its legacy in research and innovation, and close proximity to the UKs other main technology centres. With his involvement in Innovate Suffolk, he hopes to encourage development of local tech talent and start-ups.
In his spare time he is a supporter of youth rugby and plays in bands supporting good causes.
Mark Thomas Key contributor
Mark has a long time passion for software development, during a successful career he has built the gaming DirectX engine for macOS ports, developed solutions for the British team in their America cup challenges and worked with Bowers & Wilkins. He is also a long time member of the Apple Developers conference, an event he has been attending for over twenty years! His passion for software / programming started around 11 where I wrote a VAT package for the family Farm.
As a true advocate of software locally Mark has been an on ongoing supporter for the growth of the Tech eco-system in Suffolk. He currently runs the largest regional watch parties of Google IO Extended, is a Patron for Creative Computing Club and contributes to many other local events including SyncIpswich, DevelopHer and Ipswich Maker Space.
Coderus is an embedded mobile design service consultancy, and helps clients build product prototypes all the way through to their certification ready for consumer release. Coderus deliver end to end solutions across multiple industries. The team has experience in providing the most challenging of apps across iOS and Android platforms with tight integration with embedded devices.

Chris has been obsessed with problem solving and delivering solutions from a young age. With an extensive background in IT consultancy for Aviva, Willis Group, BT, SEGA and British Gas, with a focus on technology and process to deliver customer value.
In 2014, Chris co-founded IJYI alongside John Nicholson to combine their passion for software delivery and their expertise for tooling, process and culture. IJYI has grown to an extensive team of Project Managers, Solution Architects, Developers, Quality Engineers and Support Analysts, with clients based across the UK.
